Bulmash: The receiving cancellation states “JUDISCHE SELBSTVERWALTUNG THERESIENSTADT” or “JEWISH SELF-GOVERNMENT THERESIENSTADT” with a date of 9/2/1944. This is a reference to the Judenrat or Council of Elders who were appointed to mediate the orders given by the Nazis to the prisoners in the Theresienstadt, i.e., they served at the pleasure of the Nazis. This card is written to a father, Leopold Kuhn, deported to Theresienstadt, by his daughter Mizzi Kuhn in Epping, Austria.
