[Royal Canadian Academy of Arts recognition in the Art of Painting certificate]

An award in a gold frame with no glass in front of it - it must be shown under a protective case. The writing on the award (English with the French translation following), says "Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Founded by H.R.H. Princess Louise and the Marquess of Lorne, 1880. To All to Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greetings Know ye that the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, established in Canada to cultivate and improve the Visual Arts, has recognized the skill and contribution of Nicolas de Grandmaison in the Art of Painting by electing him to be one of the Academicians entitled to the honours and privileges thereto pertaining. Dated this 19th/ December/ 1973." Below this are the signature of John C. Parkin, the President of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and of Roland Michener, the Governor General of Canada at the time. There is a large gold seal between the two men's signatures
