Arthur Arnsdorf was born on September 3, 1919 in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Reverend R.G. and Ida Arnsdorf. The Arnsdorf family later moved to Lethbridge where Arthur was raised with brothers, Hans, William, Werner and Walter and sisters, Gertrude and Esther. He was a graduate of Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and was employed as a clerk at the Robert Kitson Pharmacy in Lethbridge. On July 12, 1942, he married Miss Katherine Mihalik. On April 26, 1943, Arthur Arnsdorf enlisted for service in the Canadian Army at Calgary. For the next year, he received training in Calgary, Camrose and Barriefield, Ontario, and in January 1944 was qualified as a regimental signaller.
