Maurice Attwood was born in Camberley, England on September 12, 1885 to parents Edwin and Annie Attwood. He was raised in England with his brothers Edwin Jr. and John, and his sister Margaret. In April 1907, Maurice boarded the S.S. St. Louis and made the trip across the Atlantic to New York. From there he went on to Ontario and then made his way to Alberta, settling in Lethbridge. While in Lethbridge, he married his wife, Rose and together they had one child. At time of enlistment, Maurice was employed as a bottler.
