What can make can civic socialization in schools more effective? Drawing upon theories of political socialization and civic engagement, I hypothesize that high school government classes requiring active engagement will foster students who are more likely to participate in college activities of a political, democratic or social justice nature. Using an original panel survey of college freshmen at two institutions, I collected information on students\u27 civics education in high school, their engagement patterns in college and also control variables such as demographics, behavioral tendencies and familial socialization.
