Summer Orientation sessions begin June 5 University of North Dakota\u27s campus is about to get a little busier as Summer Orientation sessions will be in full swing from June 5 through July 17. Summer Orientation sessions are a chance for incoming students to get acclimated to campus and to learn about services and facilities available to them. The sessions will also include an advisement session and course registration. The Summer Orientation sessions are based on a student\u27s academic major and each session is a one-day program, except for certain majors in the College of Aerospace Sciences that offer a two-day program. Specific session dates also are available. Reservations are available on a first come, first serve basis. The cost for attending Summer Orientation is $80 per student and $25 per guest. Payments are to be made online. The breakdown of a Summer Orientation session is as follows: Students & Parents: 8-8:45 a.m. Program Check-In Memorial Union-second floor 8:45-9:45 a.m. Welcome Memorial Union-Lecture Bowl 9:45-10 a.m. Break 10-11 a.m. Essential Studies & Your Major Memorial Union-Lecture Bowl 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Campus Resource Fair Memorial Union-Ballroom 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Lunch Memorial Union-Terrace Dining Center Students: 12:45-4 p.m. Academic Success Memorial Union-Lecture Bowl Students will be divided into groups in order to participate in the following sessions: Language Placement & Credit Exam (if applicable) Math Placement Exam (if applicable) Advisement & Registration Being Exception @ UND: UND & Classroom Expectations Campus Safety College Finances Student Success Healthy Choices Campus Involvement Q&A with Current Students Parents: 1-4 p.m. Parent Orientation Education Building-Room 7 Parents will be encouraged to take part in the following sessions: Community Expectations Campus Safety College Finances Student Success College Transition for Parents Students & Parents: 4 p.m. Orientation Check-Out Memorial Union-second floor 4:10 p.m. Campus Tours Leave from Memorial Union-second floor Background Information on the Program Fee: The Summer Orientation Fee is new and will offset the cost of lunch, refreshments, materials, staffing and other expenses associated with the program. Although the fee is new for first-year UND students attending Summer Orientation, many other universities charge similar fees. Some universities charge these fees directly to students\u27 accounts rather than as part of the program reservation process as UND has chosen to do. The decision to charge the fee as part of the reservation process was made in an effort to be transparent with students and families about the fee and what it covers. Placement Exams: Students will only be allowed to take one placement exam during Summer Orientation. Math Placement: Students are encouraged to take the Computer-adapted Placement Assessment and Support Services (COMPASS) Math Placement Exam prior to attending Summer Orientation. The COMPASS exam will be offered through the UND Testing Center or at various testing sites around the country. The cost of the exam varies by location. Students who do not take the COMPASS exam prior to arriving at Summer Orientation MAY be required to take the exam at Summer Orientation as determined by the Student Success Center (based on ACT Math subscore and major). Phone registration students will be required to take the exam prior to their scheduled appointment. Language Placement and Credit Exam: The UND Language Placement and Credit Exam is available for students to take at the program if the COMPASS Math Placement Exam was completed prior to their Summer Orientation session or their ACT Math subscore allows them enrollment in their required math course. Students who do not take the Language Placement and Credit Exam during the Summer Orientation program are able to make arrangements with the Languages Department during the fall semester or at a later time.
