Jacqueline\u27s Haven

Abstract, non-representational, red, blue (Following information provided by the artist) The monotype\u27s title, Jacqueline\u27s Haven, refers to former UND professor and Chair of the UND Art Department Jackie McElroy\u27s home south of Grand Forks where Sharon Linnehan would occasionally dog sit for McElroy. Linnehan referred to the location as a haven due to its slightly remote location, modern design, and large backyard. MONOTYPE A monotype is a print pulled in an edition of one so it is therefore totally unique and can never be replicated again. Usually, it is printed on paper by first painting on a smooth copper or Plexiglas beveled plate with colored etching ink. Next the plate and dampened paper are run through an etching press in order to transfer the ink to the paper and reverse the image. Since an etching press exerts 1,000 pounds of pressure per square inch on the print and therefore pushes the ink into the paper the effect of the color is totally different than that of painting directly on paper. In a monotype some of the color appears to recede in space and therefore creates a sense of atmospheric depth which balances out the areas of the image that appear to be closer to the picture plane.https://commons.und.edu/uac-all/3169/thumbnail.jp
