This paper presents the influence of austempering temperature and time on nodular FCD 40 cast iron austempering. Austempered ductile iron (ADI) has excellent mechanical properties such as high strength, good duct ty and superior wear resistance. It is therefore considered as an economical substitute for wrought or forged steel in several structural applications, especially in the automotive industry. Succesful application of ADI as a structural component required optimization of its mechanical properties.
