Turtle River State Park is located 22 miles west of Grand Forks, ND, on US Highway 2. Within the park, there are several riverbanks that are experiencing erosion. The Red River Basin Riparian Project was contacted by the park in hopes of finding a solution. The project focuses on combining traditional engineering and soil bioengineering techniques to protect and stabilize riverbanks while enhancing in-stream and riparian habitats. The focus of the design revolved around one streambank within the park. After research was conducted and constraints were considered, the streambank will be regraded with a 3:1 slope, the toe will be protected by rock riprap with underlying geotextile, and the slope will have an erosion blanket beneath the vegetat...
