UND offers international experience for education leaders, symposium on leadership Oct. 5-6

This summer, five doctoral students and two faculty members, all from the Educational Leadership program at the University of North Dakota, had a crash course in international education, politics and social customs in the United Kingdom. The UK Cultural Tour program was an opportunity of a lifetime for these students who do or will work as school administrators. Each shadowed an English school administrator for five school day, led school activities designed to promote international understanding and conducted research in their areas of interest. They lived with a host family around Guildford, Surrey, England for 10 days. Their experiences, research and other topics will be discussed during the Beyond Borders: Bridging the Gap symposium Oct. 5-6. A presentation of the trip will be featured as will lectures, discussions and a doctoral debate. The keynote address, Leadership for Change will be given by Caroline Herlihy. Herlihy is the former Head teacher at the prestigious Shalford Infant School in Surrey, England. A 35-year veteran of childhood education, she recently retired from Shalford. She has also worked as a Primary Educational Consultant. Other speakers include: Dr. Pauline Stonehouse and Dr. Sherryl Houdek, both of the UND Department of Educational Leadership; Dr. Sheryl Hunter of the UND Department of Educational Foundations and Research; Dr. Donna Pearson of the UND Department of Teaching and Learning; and Dr. Susan Splichal of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
