Debates in Renaissance played a critical role in developing Botany, Philosophy, Medicine, and Theology. Particularly angry disputes arose from different interpretations of ancient texts, say, Dioscoride's Materia Medica. In one of the most infamous two-sections booklet Mattioli replics «insane discourses et calumnies» by Lusitanus. I deal with the first one, the Apologia. which concerns to false identifications of plants and some errors in Mattioli translation, according to Lusitanus.
