This research evaluates the use of natural gas by the transit systems throughout the state of Nebraska. The Nebraska Department of Roads initiated a demonstration program in 1991 that consisted of 39 dual-fueled vehicles operated by 33 transit systems. Fourteen of these vehicles use gasoline and CNG (compressed natural gas), and 25 use gasoline and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) as alternative fuels. The study gathered, compiled and analyzed statistical data relating to the mileage, fuel use, costs, as well as compiled information on problems relating to fueling, and safety precautions.
