African perspectives on astronomy are explored. Some traditional methods used to study astronomical phenomena as a way of meeting environmental challenges, including food insecurity, droughts, and floods, are considered. Local ethnic groups forecast weather and climate for the coming seasons by observing stellar positions as well as changes in plant and animal behavior. In academic tenns we might refer to these interactions of astronomy and the local environment as a form of interdisciplinary discourse, namely, astrobiology. This interdisciplinary discourse has the potential to benefit the community not only through environmental protection measures but also by boosting the tourism industry in some African countries
