This study clarifies the vertical structure of diurnal variations of local wind systems during daytime in summer over the Kanto Plain, by focusing on differences in wind systems caused by a pressure gradient under synoptic conditions. The degree of divergence, an index of the atmospheric vertical motion, was calculated using observed surface wind data in 2004-2008. Wind velocity was adjusted on the basis of the logarithmic law because of differences in the observation heights of winds at respective stations.
