Correspondence: Zebulon Weaver to Mark Squires, March 25, 1932

Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In this letter Weaver discusses with Mark Squires of the North Carolina Park Commission his concerns regarding the President vetoing the Road Bill containing appropriations for the national park’s development. He also mentions the necessity of settling through proper decree the condemnation suit brought by the State against the Champion Fibre Company.March 85, 1932. Hon. I told him that I could not see how we could sake the United States a party, sad I do not think it is necessary, end as you may recall, I wrote you some time ago shout taking up with the Attorney General the question of what effect the waranty deed made hy the Champion fibre Company to the State, after the condemnation suit had been filed, would, or might, have upon the proceedings where there were individual adverse claims in opposition to the Champion Fibre Coapany*s titles. I wish you would, if you can, give this some thought.
