Premium List of the Brasstown Community Fair 1926

This brochure was printed for the 1926 Brasstown Community Fair. Marguerite Butler (later Marguerite Butler Bidstrup), who was instrumental in founding the John C. Campbell Folk School in 1925, is listed as secretary of the Brasstown Fair Association. The interests and activities of the folk school heavily influenced the 1926 fair, especially in the category of "Arts and Crafts" which included basketry, broom making, furniture making, drawing, and painting. Textile arts such as weaving, quilting, and tatting fall under the category of home economics. Woodcarving was not yet established. A "special features" section advertises "an exhibit of forestry, gotten up and supervised by an expert forester" which would have been Belgian forester and engineer, Leon Deschamps, who was hired by the folk school four months prior to this fair. Special features also include a hand made pottery exhibit and a booth about the short history of the folk school. The first Brasstown Community Fair was held in 1917
