This photograph shows students inside the Edward F. Worst Craft house during the August 1935 Weaving Institute on the campus of what became Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts). The building was named after the school's first weaving instructor, Edward F. Worst. The structure was erected during a community log-raising held in early May 1935 and put into use that summer despite the lack of windows and chinking between the logs. Students that year donated money for windows which were installed in time for the following summer's institute. This photograph was taken by Bayard Wootten
