Waste management and valorization in mining sector is one of the special issue of European Commission Strategies. The aims of this research is to develop a new Control Low Strength Material (CLSM) re-using sludge deriving from sawing ornamental stone blocks into slabs. One of the main problem related to sawing sludge is the metals content due to the cutting tools wear. One of the CLSM requirements is the dissipation of heat due to the electric cable of the road surface. In this context we want to exploit the chemical-physical properties of the mud to reuse it in a context in which a defect becomes a fundamental requirement. Sawing sludge considering in this study are coming from two different cutting technologies: gangsaw and a mix of gangsaw and diamond saw. After a sludge characterization evaluating metals content by means of magnetic separation and quartz content by means of image J software, four CLSM mixtures were performed. The four mixtures arte characterized by different cement content. The following laboratory tests were carried out on final products: flowability, resilient modulus, thermal conductivity. Chemical analysis and leaching tests were carried out on sludge and on final products to verify the metals release. SEM analysis was performed on CLSM to verify the cement immobilization of metals. All CLSM mixtures exhibit good results as thermal conductivity and resilient modulus, and it can be assert that sawing sludge could be a good substitute of normal aggregate used for CLSM. Reuse of sawing sludge in untreated state is provide to reduce any costs connected to a pre-treatment and to make the recovery economically advantageous for companies
