What is research in architecture? The explorative attitude of design, taken always on uncharted territories by its need to mediate between interests, contexts and techniques, would suggest that architecture is research. This sort of tautological answer sounds both generic and precise: while avoiding the complexity of issues with which architectural research has to do right now, it points out a fundamental aspect of the contradictions the latter must deal with.
