In the United States, the disposal approach so called Deep Boreholes for Disposal (DBD) is being studied for radioactive waste. The DBD approach consists of deep boreholes drilled into continental bedrock for disposition of HLW. The disposal zone is many hundreds of meters deeper than for typical mined repositories, which means greater natural isolation from the surface and near-surface environment. During the past years vertical boreholes were the most studied, now slant-path boreholes can be a valid alternative for the future: in a previous paper, mechanical analysis has been performed, while here thermal analysis is presented and a final design recommendation is discussed
