Soft glass optical fibers are of great interest for the scientific community, since they can be used for compact short pulsed optical fiber lasers operating in the near infrared wavelength region. Indeed soft glasses such as phosphate and tellurite can incorporate large amounts of rare earth ions while keeping a high absorption and emission cross sections, without clustering effects.
