This paper presents the results of the first phase of the 3 year project “Smart Energy Efficient Middleware for Public Spaces (SEEMPubS)” that addresses reduction in energy usage and CO2 footprint in existing Public buildings and Spaces, through an intelligent ICT-based service monitoring and managing the energy consumption. The main activities were: selection of some case-studies to be used as demonstrators; definition of suitable control strategies; development of the main software infrastructure to connect sensors and to manage the interoperability between networks produced by different manufacturers.
