A companion paper by the author described the "Prediction of drained behavior from undrained behavior of clay soil". As noted in that paper the principles of critical states soil mechanics and several of the critical state parameters have been used in making the prediction. For readers not familiar with the concept of critical state soil mechanics and its parameters its concepts relevant to the paper are. briefly explained and procedures for critical state parameters determination are presented. For such readers this is the prerequisite of that paper
