This article gathers the research results based on theories and strategies that have been pointed in the teaching and learning processes of written language to deaf population from 1970 to 2003, by which the principal approaches are oralism (monolinguism) and bilinguism. In the first approach, oralism, the methods as multisensorial, acupedics, verb tonal and total communication are implemented.
