The present thesis describes the synthesis and photophysical properties of a variety of organometallic PtII complexes containing mainly CT excited states. The photophyscial properties have been investigated by absorption spectroscopy, steady-state and time resolved photoluminescence both at room temperature and 77 K, nanosecond laser flash photolysis, and cyclic voltammetry. This thesis focused in complexes with the molecular structure [(tpy)PtR]+, where R is either Cl- or a substituted acetylide unit (-C≡CR\u27) and tpy corresponds to 2,2\u27:6\u27,2 -terpyridine.
