Au(PPO)Cl complex is a new gold catalyst which has been studied for hydrofunctionalizations of alkenes and alkynes. The bisphosphine monoxide is coordinated at the metal center as hemilabile ligand. In order to probe the proton interaction at the phosphinoxide moiety, which may act as proton shuttle in hydrofunctionalization reactions, 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic studies of the bisphosphine monoxide gold(I) chloro complex with tetrafluoroboric acid in various solvents were performed. The complex gave good catalysis results for hydroarylation and hydration of alkenes and triple bond compounds, while for the hydroamination of alkynes only moderate activity was observed.
