The status of occupational safety in Nigeria

Safety is the state of being free from danger, risks, hazards, accidents, etc. Nigeria is a country with various industries and it is important to discuss safety policies. Employees engage in lots of activities and might encounter dangerous situations which may be harmful and cause injuries, illnesses, or loss of life. Proper safety procedures are developed to ensure the protection of employees, management, and the public. This thesis examines the safety and health practices in Nigerian and American industries and examines how the safety and health practices can be improved in Nigerian industries. The purpose of the study was to investigate the state of safety in Nigeria and examine ways by which occupational safety and health (OSH) practices in the United States can be used as a yardstick for the improvement of the OSH system in Nigeria. The method used in this study is called ‘compare and contrast’. This method will help to identify the similarities and differences of occupational safety and health practices in the United States and Nigeria. Through this, the issues with the implementation and the enforcement of the Nigerian safety laws and procedures are identified and measures to eliminate the issues are developed
