This study investigates the Beat generation as a marginal social group of the Post WWII America and looks at Chandler Brossard's Who Walk in Darkness and John Clellon Holmes's Go as the first works of the Beat movement which has had a significant impact on the American culture and society. The cultural and social legacy of the Beats can be traced to the sixties counterculture, hippies, anti-war movements, and even the civil rights movement. Their literary impact has been even more significant.
