The removal of heavy metals from the environment is the special concern due to their persistence without degradation. Methods for treating laboratory and industrial wastewater containing heavy metals often involve technologies for reduction of toxicity in order to meet technology-based treatment standards. Physico-chemical removal processes such as; adsorption on new adsorbents, ion exchange, membrane filtration, electrodialysis, reverse osmosis, and ultrafiltration were discussed.
