The alarming carnage on the Nigerian roads involving deaths and deplorable conditions of the roads necessitated this study. The data for the study was gathered primarily through secondary source. Analysis of the data and information reveal that a number of factors are responsible for the sad situation. These factors include human (corruption, collusion with contractions, errors of omission and commission), physical including (inferior materials, soil texture) and systemic factors. The conclusion is that the situation is so complex that a multivariate approach is needed and to tackle it.
