A native Hoosier, Holtman was born in Indianapolis but raised in Lafayette and attended K-12 there. She then attended Purdue and received her degree in 1940 in Home Economics. She talks about college life during the late 1930's, as well as family activities such as a family owned grocery store. She taught in two rural schools in Indiana and discusses her students and life in Marshall County. A project in Lalte County is also discussed. She currently resides in this community and is active in her church
