B-D: Data from NIHR HSC, derived from new preparations added to the BNF from 1982-2011. Shows numbers of NCEs, new biologics and totals for each year. E: Data from CMR (1991), published by Tansey et al(1994). Shows numbers of NCEs for each year from 1971-1989. F: Combines data from columns D & E to show numbers of new drugs from 1971-2011. Years 1982-89 show the average of the two values, rounded to the nearest whole number
