Response data collected from human subjects performing a computer-based task in the laboratory. The task involved selecting which of two alternative images presented simultaneously onscreen was perceived as more similar to a target image which was presented at the same time. The images were of free-ranging adult rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) faces, collected in the field at Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico. The sex and degree of genetic relatedness between the individual macaques portrayed onscreen was systematically varied, in order to examine whether humans can detect cues of kinship in the faces of rhesus macaques
