This meta-database operates within the network of California government sites. It operates in conjunction with the California Environmental Resource Evaluation System, the California Geographic Information Association, and the Federal Geographic Data Committee, as well as many other federal and state institutions. The aim is to facilitate and organize research that is undertaken along the central coast of California. There is a wealth of metadata contained within this site, mostly regarding marine biotas and to a lesser extent terrestrial biotas.
