These are counts of gypsy moths, Lymantria dispar, in pheromone traps and counts of egg masses. They were collected as part of a gypsy moth management program in portions of the central Appalachian Mtns. in Virginia and West Virginia. In VA, traps were placed on a quasi 2 km grid and in WV the traps were in a qualsi 3 kim grid. In certain locations (where isolated colonies were thought to exist based upon previous years trapping data) traps were put at much higher densities. These data exhibit a very strong trend - counts are very high to the northeast and low (mostly zero) in the southwest.
