The objective of this paper is to identify the main determinants that affect the demand for mortgage credit by households, by analyzing the socioeconomic characteristics of the heads of household of the city of Bogota in the year 2014. For the achievement of this objective, we make a description of the normative framework of the access to the demand of housing and its financing through mortgages was made, where a review of its antecedents and the current policy is made. Finally, and appealing to the data collected by the multipurpose survey carried out for the city, the characterization of the main socioeconomic determinants of the heads of households was elaborated.
