Este artigo busca contextualizar historicamente o surgimento do conceito de “democracia racial” como elemento definidor da nacionalidade brasileira. Pretende-se indicar a participação dos afro-brasileiros em tal processo, em uma contraposição com as visões que os colocam como meras vítimas de uma ideologia criada pela elite branca para perpetuar a dominação racial.Palavras-chave: Democracia racial.
