Social interactions and dominance between two squirreis, Spermophilus spilosoma and S. mexicanus were studied in the Biosphere Reserve of Mapimi under cautivity conditions. The test was conducted in a square arena. Inter and intraspecific dyadic encounters were staged. Each dyadic encounter was characterized by two indexes (agonistic Índex and tolerance Índex). Each índex measures the behavioural frequencies. In both species intersexual encounters, males were more aggressive during mating, while females showed a higher agonistic Índex during breeding. Through intraspecific encounters, S. spilosoma exhibited a tolerant behavior while & mexicanas was highiy agonistic. S. mexicanas excluded S. spilosoma from the arena and exhibited a high ...
