Neuroinflammation has been found to be characteristic of neurological diseases, including Alzheimer\u27s disease. Research focusing on the cause of Alzheimer\u27s disease has produced evidence that chronic infection(s) may be at the root of the problem. Our lab has shown that the bacterium Chlamydia pneumoniae can infect many different types of cells in the brain and survive intracellularly for long periods of time. Furthermore, Chlamydia pneumoniae is known to elicit a prominent pro-inflammatory response during infection.
