Evaluación de la efectividad de la rehabilitación respiratoria en pacientes asmáticos

Bronchial asthma is a common and complex disease characterized by airway inflammation, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and airflow obstruction. The benefits achieved by asthmatic patients after the completion of a respiratory physiotherapy program are innumerable and the most important is the decrease in the frequency of acute attacks and a better quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation slows the worsening of asthma and help patients to prevent their crisis. A prospective observational study was conducted Escambray Kurhotel from August to December 2010 with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of a rehabilitation treatment of bronchial asthma. This paper is the result of a pilot test that was conducted in order to design a comprehensive rehabilitation program in patients with asthma, and which was subsequently evaluated by experts. The results of the treatment by age group showed that the highest percentages of improvement were in those patients over 70 years (100%) and under 30 (90%). Regarding the application of treatments – exercise, exercise and humid therapy, and exercise, humid therapy and physical means – 95.2% of the patients who received the combination of the three treatments improved, as did 41.7% of those receiving two therapies. The difference between the initial lung function test and the last showed a slight improvement in 52 patients, moderate improvement in 11, good in two and very good in one patient.El asma bronquial es una enfermedad común y compleja caracterizada por la inflamación de la vía aérea, la hiperreactividad bronquial y la obstrucción del flujo aéreo. Los beneficios que los pacientes asmáticos logran tras la realización de un programa de fisioterapia respiratoria son innumerables y el más importante lo constituye la disminución de la frecuencia de los ataques agudos y la mejor calidad de vida; la rehabilitación pulmonar retrasa el agravamiento del asma y ayuda a los pacientes a prevenir sus crisis. Se realizó un estudio observacional prospectivo en el Kurhotel “Escambray” de agosto a diciembre de 2010 con el objetivo de evaluar la efectividad del tratamiento rehabilitador del asma bronquial; este trabajo es el resultado de una prueba piloto que se realizó para el diseño de un programa de rehabilitación integral a pacientes asmáticos y que fue valorada posteriormente por expertos. Los resultados del tratamiento por grupos de edades mostraron que los que más altos porcentajes de mejoría tuvieron fueron los mayores de 70 años (100%) y los menores de 30 (90%); en cuanto a la aplicación de los tratamientos -con ejercicios, con ejercicios y terapia húmeda y con ejercicios, terapia húmeda y medios físicos- el 95.2% de los pacientes a los que se les combinaron los tres tratamientos mejoraron, lo mismo que el 41.7% de los que recibieron dos terapias; la diferencia entre la prueba funcional respiratoria inicial y la final mostró una mejoría leve en 52 pacientes, una moderada en 11, una buena en dos y una muy buena mejoría un paciente
