Developing a Directorial Vision For a Production of Jim Leonard, Jr.\u27s, the Diviners

The purpose of this study is to create a meaningful directorial vision for a production of Jim Leonard, Jr.\u27s play, The Diviners, by using Louis E. Catron\u27s system for play analysis as outlined in his book, The Director\u27s Vision: Play Direction from Analysis to Production. To achieve this goal, this study will entail : an analysis of the playscript from Catron\u27s application of the Aristotelian theories of plot, character, thought, music, and spectacle; a discussion of the directorial vision that was created as a result of interpreting the information obtained from the textual analysis; and an evaluation of the successes and failures that were experienced as a result of the employment of the vision in a production of the play. In the end, this study will demonstrate that the use of a comprehensive system of textual analysis results in the creation of a meaningful directorial vision that leads to an artistically unified production of the play
