LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP OF SILVER CROAKER, Plagioscion squamosissimus HECKEL, 1840 (PERCIFORMES, SCIANIDAE) LANDED IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF OIAPOQUE

O presente estudo analisou a relação peso-comprimento de Plagioscion squamosissimus, popularmente conhecida como pescada branca. Foram analisadas 100 fêmeas e 77 machos capturados mensalmente no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2008, provenientes da pesca artesanal realizada por pescadores da comunidade de Taparabu, Município de Oiapoque. A relação peso total (g) e comprimento total (cm), a qual tende a expressão matemática Wt = a.Ltb, foi estimada através de regressão e aplicação do teste t-Student, com intuito de determinar o tipo de crescimento e analisar a possível distinção entre os valores do coeficiente de alometria (b). Os valores de b encontrados para machos (b=2,56) e para fêmeas (b=2,58) e para ambos os sexos agrupados (b=2,67), foram estatisticamente diferentes (b≠3). As análises indicaram crescimento alométrico negativo (b<3), sendo, portanto, o crescimento em peso relativamente menor do que o crescimento em comprimento total. A diferença entre os valores de b entre machos e fêmeas pode estar relacionado a aspectos ambientais, como a condição alimentar dos organismos. O conhecimento sobre a bioecologia da espécie em seus parâmetros de crescimento e sua relação com fatores ambientais, assim como caracterização da pesca atuante sobre os estoques, pode auxiliar no manejo e ordenamento correto dos recursos pesqueiros.Palavras-chave: Pesca artesanal, alometria, crescimento.The present study analyzed the weight-length relationship of Plagioscion squamosissimus, popularly known as pescada. A total of 100 females and 77 males were analyzed monthly in the period from January to December 2008, from the artisanal fishery carried out by fishermen from the community of Taparabu, Municipality of Oiapoque. The relation total weight (g) and total length (cm), which tends to the mathematical expression Wt = a.Ltb, was estimated through regression and application of Student's t test, in order to determine the type of growth and to analyze the possible distinction between the values of the allometry coefficient (b). The values of b found for males (b = 2.56) and for females (b = 2.58) and for both sexes grouped (b = 2.67) were statistically different (b ≠ 3). Analyzes indicated negative allometric growth (b <3), and therefore growth in weight was relatively lower than growth in total length. The difference between b values between males and females may be related to environmental aspects, such as the food condition of the organisms. Knowledge about the bioecology of the species in its parameters of growth and its relation with environmental factors, as well as the characterization of the fish on the stocks, can help in the correct management and ordering of the fishing resources.Keywords: Artisanal fishery; Allometry; Growth
