O presente trabalho descreve os aspectos da morfologia e as variações histológicas que ocorrem durante o desenvolvimento gonadal, a fecundidade e o tipo de desova de Hypostomus pusarum (Starks, 1913) (Actinopterygii: Loricariidae), um peixe nativo do semiárido brasileiro. Os peixes foram capturados mensalmente, durante o período de setembro de 2003 a agosto de 2004, no açude Marechal Dutra, Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil, com auxílio dos pescadores da região, utilizando redes de espera com malhas entre com 6 a 10 cm de espaços entre nós. Durante o período de estudo foram capturados 60 machos e 121 fêmeas de H. pusarum.
