Effects of Reiki treatments on clinical treatment goals in people who have symptoms of depression

The purpose of this study was to investigate the beneficial effects of the healing method of Reiki on clients who suffer from clinical depression. A convenience sample of 12 adult clients receiving psychotherapy for depression participated in a study which included Reiki as part of their therapy. People who chose to try Reiki were put in the experimental group others were placed in the control group. Before beginning the first psychotherapy session, all subjects completed a Beck Depression Inventory-I and read through the Informed consent information. Participants in the experimental group (n = 6) received three cognitive/behavioral psychotherapy sessions and three Reiki sessions. Participants in the control group (n = 6) received six cognitive/behavioral psychotherapy sessions. Results showed that there was no significant difference in the two groups. Anecdotal information did convey a positive view of Reiki and the ability of clients to feel more at ease during the therapeutic process
