We begin with a discussion of the economic status of dairy markets in the U.S. in 1987, followed by a review of the major policy issues since the Food Security Act was passed in 1985. The paper concludes with some comments on the economic outlook for the U.S. dairy industry in 1988 and on the possible policy changes that could shape the dairy economy beyond this year
