RESUMÉDenne artikel leverer et kritisk blik på de danske institutionsvaner ved at stille en række spørgsmål til det faktum, at daginstitutioner varetager danske børns opvækst i et bemærkelsesværdigt omfang. Der stilles skarpt på forbindelsen mellem familie og daginstitution, hvor institutionerne anses som definerende for barndommen og strukturerende for familiens hellige og hemmelige univers. Gennemgående spørges der til, hvordan vi er kommet til at anse institutionerne for naturlige.
