Although publishing houses ought to be an important participant in the marketing ofdictionaries, necessary qualifications are to be found in the editorial dictionary staff. Inparticular this is the case when it comes to large multi-volume national dictionaries. Inspite of this, it is hard to find descriptions of dictionary presentations intended for pupilsand students. An investigation of curricula in compulsory school and upper-secondaryschool in the Scandinavian countries reveals big differences between the countries. TheDanish compulsory school curriculum shows thorough use of dictionaries, whereas thesubject is not mentioned at all in the Swedish curriculum. Taking a presentation of NorskOrdbok for pupils and students as a starting point, the authors show how the use of NorskOrdbok can be integrated in mother tongue teaching to expand not only word knowledge,but also knowledge of language history and dialectology. By use of auditive and visual effectspupils and students can be motivated to use a complex dictionary. An evaluation ofthe presentation shows that pupils and students find it useful and instructive
