STATEMENT TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SPANISH SPEAKING COMMUNITY 1. Chancellor J. Martin Klotsche has instructed Assistant Chancellors Lynn Eley and Ernest Spaights and Dean Richard Davis to meet with representatives of the Spanish community in order to clarify your state-ment to the University in reference\ to the establishment of a Spanish Speaking Outreach Institute. We are charged with developing plans and presenting them to the Chancellor for review. 2. We support in principle the establishment of such an institute at the University. 3'. We also s1.1pport in principle the 11 points made in your state-ment to the University~ however, the University must, in concert with representatives of the Latin community, develop the specific details I of the Institute and further clarify the issues listed in your state-ment. 4. The School of Education has agreed to employ a staff member who will be recommended by .CELA. This person will become familiar with the programs in the School, as well as those in other educational units in the University, in order that the University can involve more members of the Spanish corrununity in its educational programs. This person will also be involved in deve~oping the concept of the Institute.
