Xiangqi old man’s (Kaiyun Wang) calligraphic hanging scroll - 湘綺老人(王闓運)書法立軸

Kaiyun Wang, known as Renqiu or Renfu (courtesy name) and Xiangqi (pseudonyms), was born in Changsha, China. Wang is a renowned classics researcher, historian and Chinese literature scholar. Wang served as a policy adviser of Guofan Zeng (an eminent official and scholar of the late Qing dynasty) and later devoted himself to teaching. He specialized in Gongyang Zhuan (a classic book of ancient Chinese history) and spent a great effort writing poems as well as local chronicles. A book covering Wang’s research and poems, called “Xiang Qi Lou Quan Ji” was published.王闓運，字壬秋、壬父，號湘綺，長沙人。清末時期的經學家、史學家和文學家。早年曾為曾國藩幕僚，後期致力於教學。王闓運博學多聞，擅長經學研究，尤其是公羊學。除了經學，王闓運在史學和文學也頗有成就，其經學著作和詩文，後人合刊為「湘綺樓全書」。When dew still freezes in the morning, a belle wakes up wearing feather garments.
