Historically care providers have prescribed antipsychotic and other psychotropic medications in an attempt to manage the Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). Currently, antipsychotic and other psychotropic medications are often still considered first-line therapy.1 Although there is little evidence to support their use, antipsychotic and other psychotropic medications are too often prescribed to persons with dementia.
